Live pigeon shoots is a good example.. or quail hunting, or any kind of hunting that the rich people do on private grounds, where the quarry is basically caged and let loose in a confined space as if it would be hard to kill it as soon as it's released.

I believe Al said he wanted to do a ficticious holiday song, but i don't think he said he wanted to a ficticious holiday song to point out the bad things we excuse our selves for because it's tradition. My guess is Weasels popped in his head as it's kin to poodles and borrowing five bucks (running jokes he likes to keep bring back up) and the idea of stomping them came up.. he wrote out a couple verses and then the line about it being a tradition, that makes it okay was written.. in other words, i think he came up with a silly song idea and from it came a funny line that happened to be poignant. I don't think he started out thinking he wanted to make a statement by writing a song that exposed how we do violent things to animals and then excuse ourselves because it's always been that way.

that said.... every year it's brought up how many think it's cruel to corale and kill Turkeys over one Holiday and people bring up Tofu alternatives and then the show the president pardoning one Turkey. I'm not arguing that it's cruel so much as i'm stating that many obviously think it is.
there's also the history of "Wasailing" and "Trick Or Treat". I'm sure you know about Trick or Treat, but wasailing is basically the same thing done during Christmas time from back in the Victorian ages, where you go caroling door to door, and then basically insist that the people let you in so you can treat yourself to what you want like a bunch of hooligans.

Oh, and the running out of cranberry sauce part.
The inevitability kinda depends on the family, doesn't it? But running out of cranberry sauce, that's a tragedy! (I make it myself, with the recipe on the bag of cranberries-- no cans here, nossir!)

Back on topic: "it's tradition so that makes it okay"-- fraternity hazing and alcohol-poisoning parties.

 Random note: weasels should be greeted on Weasel Stomping Day with "Squeak or stomp!"

...Sorry, that really wasn't that funny, was it? :P

I know, first I just had "Weasel Stomping Day" in there, but when I was searching through google images of weasels I saw a cartoon that said "pop goes the weasel," and I thought it was a nicer, more fitting way of going about it. Again, you probably can't see the X's on the weasel's eyes, but that was my favorite part of the picture.

EDIT: Here's the pic in actual size...or at least bigger...

If this song is supposed to be a social commentary or have a deeper meaning against animal cruelty, Al really missed the mark with it. All I see is a bunch of 13 year olds laughing at animals being crushed to death.
My name is U62 and I approved this message!

Satire is often hard to detect, but trust me, this song is dripping with the stuff.
