Oh my. XD Word Crimes is like a dictionary/grammar book IN ITSELF, in song form!
Reading through your posts, there are things I didn't hear before--
This is such a multi-layered song full of little funny bits behind "Al the grammar teacher" singing/rapping in the foreground and education on how NOT to find "peepl mocking u onliiiiine"...
His own grammar screwups, his laughter (super cute, by the way), and exclamations ("OOH PSYCH!" mixed with the serious "I was being sarcastic") that we've got to really pay attention to, as if we really ARE being lectured in a classroom by Al, to notice.
Classic Al. And his timeless juxtaposing totally informal, almost immature funny, with super-educated seriousness. XD
And you guys aren't the only ones shaking your heads at other peoples' word crimes--
The very last letter I got from my ex-boyfriend after I had to break up with him... oh dear. I took one look and knew no court, no bail money in the WORLD was going to save him from being convicted for all those repeated Word Crime offenses... XD

Did you catch "lousy writer" after the very first line ("If you can't write, in the proper way")?
Haha, I was hearing "crappy writer". I just listened again, and turned it up a little, and you're right. It
is "lousy writer". Those two words aren't even close to sounding alike.

There is also something just before he starts singing the first verse. I think it's "turn me on" or something, but there's a Wooh going through it.

He is saying "Here we go".

Pretty sure it's "Turn it up." Also checked "Blurred Lines" (ugh) and that's what it says at that point too.

Hmm, still sounds like "Here we go" to me, but "Turn it up" makes more sense. I'm mishearing a lot of lyrics on this CD. I wish I could turn the volume up higher on this computer, but I can't. I listen through headphones, too. Ah, well.

Hey...
...Did anyone notice that really cool little laugh of his when he sings, "What's a contraction?"?
I caught it the first time I heard Word Crimes (actually when seeing the video at the same time during 8-videos-8-days), but when Stormy (Aedriane) pointed it out to me, I just loved it so much more.
As a girl(/Yankochick), I just...wanted to mention it and how it was really cute <3 *takes it over to the drool topic before anyone tells her to 'heyheyhey! go away!'*

It's a direct imitation of what Robin Thicke does at the same part of the song ("what rhymes with hug me?").

this might be one of my favorite songs on MF. when Blurred Lines came out i felt a bit conflicted - i would dance to it in my car whenever it came on the radio because the beat was catchy, but at the same time i was always like "ugh, ew" because the lyrics were gross. Now? Al took everything that was awesome about the original AND made it so i can sing along without feeling like i need a shower afterward.

bwahahaa...my ex also has an extensive rap sheet of Word Crimes and would commit them on a regular basis...the awful thing is, he wants to be a professional writer!

when we were together he would always send me things he wrote and want me to read them, and they were atrocious and i never knew quite what to say!
