bwahahaa...my ex also has an extensive rap sheet of Word Crimes and would commit them on a regular basis...the awful thing is, he wants to be a professional writer! when we were together he would always send me things he wrote and want me to read them, and they were atrocious and i never knew quite what to say!

As a pathologically picky girl who turned down every interested guy so far I find that pointing out their grammar is the most effective way to make them go away without actually telling them "you know, I find you really boring, I'd rather watch some TV than chat with you" .

She said, "Mom, turn that off!"
I asked, "Why? Because you don't want people to hear that we're listening to Weird Al?"
"No, I don't want them to think we're listening to 'Blurred Lines'!"

he was just like 'oh ok'. he doesn't really 'get' anything comedy-related, and he was distracted because other co-workers were looking through a catalogue of sex toys.

I can now see his irritated, frustrated and "WHAT IN THE NAME OF FORK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE" expression much moreso!!

These coworkers wouldn't even NEED "Blurred Lines" OR "Word Crimes"! They're already doing their reading, grammar/spelling learning, AND their... er... sexy time, too (in respect to Robin Thicke's song's subject matter). !

haha that reminds me...

back story: my mother and stepfather are ridiculously conservative; i wasn't allowed to listen to mainstream music or watch TV or movies until i went to college. so i consider it my job to introduce my 15-year-old sister to all the fun things the entertainment world has to offer. a few weeks ago i decided she needed to discover the wonderfulness of Weird Al, so i played her some YouTube videos and parts of the Alpocalypse DVD.

she laughed out loud at Polka Face and First World Problems success! then i played White and Nerdy and all of a sudden my mother comes racing over with this horrified look and goes "is that RAP MUSIC?! are you showing her something inappropriate?!"

I too grew up with maaajorly conservative parents. My dad-- oh my goodness, watching TV with him was a challenge, I'd freeze up whenever someone on TV said or did something all ~suggestive~ and my Dad would go "uh nope this isn't appropriate!".

My mum once walked past me watching just a minute of a Kylie Minogue music video and she went-- "Is that porn?!! D8"


That is so sweet how you're gonna be the all-knowing big sister to teach your little sis everything! <333 I want to introduce Al to my mum, but I'm not quite sure how to go about it yet. ;A; You see, she's barely heard of him...if it wasn't for me, she wouldn't have known about him at all.

Any suggestions would be fabuloouus. <3

I registered specifically to ask this...

Those of you with the vinyl of Mandatory Fun, have you noticed that "Word Crimes" plays at a noticeably faster rate than on the CD? I thought I was just hearing things, but I played them side by side, and there is definitely a difference.
