I can't remember where I heard that, but its true. I'm sure Bobbi, Dave, Dr. Dad, or CD will give you the exact explanation since they seem to remember things better of where they found that info.CurlyFries @ Feb 18 2004, 08:21 PM wrote:huh? how do you tell someone about THAT?Driew_La_27 @ Feb 18 2004, 11:18 PM wrote: Actually a friend told him about the chant and then AL and the band made it work.![]()
This {Yoda Chant}was first introduced at the Dr.Demento 20th Anniversary Show, as part of Another One Rides The Bus. Now, Al and the band has been reciting this amazing chant in concert as part of an encore rendition of "Yoda" for the past few years, in perfect synchronosity [sic], choreography, and possibly telepathy.
The Yoda Chant was first introduced on Dr. Demento's 20th Anniversary Show. Derived out of an African-style chant and choreography that Steve Jay put together, it was originally performed during "Another One Rides The Bus." It affectionately received the name of The Yoda Chant when Al and the band started performing it at the end of "Yoda" during the Off The Deep End Tour. Since it's debut, The Yoda Chant has gone through several revisions. The chant sped up a little and slightly evolved for the Alapalooza Tour. It remained relatively unchanged until the start of Touring With Scissors '99 where it got a major overhaul. That's the version that used today.
TFN: Youve done one other Star Wars-inspired parody so far: Yoda on the Dare To Be Stupid album, a send-up of Lola by The Kinks. And you and the band have something called the Yoda Chant you perform during concerts. For the benefit of anyone reading this who hasnt witnessed the spectacle, could you describe what that is? Where did the Yoda Chant come from?
AL: It's kinda hard to describe. It's sort of a breakdown section in the middle of the song... it starts out as an authentic East Indian chant... "da din din da da din din da..." - kind of a tabla thing - and then it devolves into just silliness with things like "pa pa oo mow mow" and "la la la, nice lady!" It's long and complex and has its own choreography, which oddly enough, a number of fans have memorized.
