Well, some have suggested that the 027 is a reference to Mary because her birthday is February 7th.

My first thougts when seeing the pic:

the dog should have been a snarling poodle

I don`t think he would have done that, because of the last ALbum. People would look at it and say "Oh, there`s that horrible album with the poodle on it".

Well, it could be. But why recognize one parent with initials and the other with a partial birthdate, instead of two sets of initials or two sets of dates? I'm stickin' with my theory that the initials are Nina's and the "027" is a shout-out to us.

You could look at the "Straight Outta Lynwood" title as a tribute to his parents. For Al to have come from there, and have turned out to be the person he is, definitely IS a testament to the love & care with which Nick and Mary raised their boy.

Cuz you have to pay extra for a plate that`s all letters

. Just kidding, but I think the reason he did one of each is because to do that would make it obvious he is mentioning his parents. And judging from The Rugburns incident a while back, I`d say Al doesn`t enjoy being obvious.

Well, I see your point, but I think there's a big difference between doing a style parody of a very obscure group and adding a subtle but touching tribute to one's parents who passed away tragically.

This is very true. SOL (see, I'm abbreviating it already!) is more likely to have an unambiguous acknowledgement of his parents, probably in the liner notes.

Or it could be all of the above-a 27 reference, Nina's initials [if indeed that is Nina's full actual monogram], a reference to Mary's birthday and a reference to Nick.
