Meg, the video was just to display another song with a similar idea to the rumors we're hearing. Nothing to do with how we're expecting Al's final product to turn out.
Cane and Rinse: weekly thoughtful video game discussion. Give it a listen, won't you?

Ok, that video sucked. A lot.
As for Al's song, I myself highly doubt he'd do something like that. Honestly, Al is way more clever than that.

Aron-- Only the second accordionist to ever sit in the trunk of Torsoboy's DeLorean. Al was the first.

Exactly. That's what I'm worried about as well. I'm not saying Al took the idea from this video, but it IS a very big coincidence.Bruce the Duck @ Jan 13 2006, 07:36 PM wrote: What bothers me is two things - 1) There is probable evidence of Al taking someone else's idea for a parody (albeit Al's will be infinitely better and classier) and 2) This could cause some serious bad press for Al.
Oh yeah and that video sucked.

This isn't really news per se, but master animator Bill Plympton's web site is hinting at his work on a new music video "coming soon." It doesn't mention Al and the blurb doesn't quite compare to the openness over on Katie Rice's blog, but it does give some credence to the mention in last December's "New York Times" article, the press mention that kicked off this newer thread.
The debatable downside is that if this news blurb on Bill's site is in fact referring to Al's new video, confirming his work on it, then the "Times" is probably also correct in that it's going to be parodying "We are the World."
(I guess I could have posted this over in that other thread, but since the link was more about one of the animators working on the video and less about the song itself, I felt putting it here was appropriate.)

I might be acting a bit slow here, but what makes you think that? All it says is "This is only the third music-video Bill has done, but another one is coming soon...". That doesn't suggest a thing.CatraDhtem @ Jan 17 2006, 04:13 PM wrote: The debatable downside is that if this news blurb on Bill's site is in fact referring to Al's new video, confirming his work on it, then the "Times" is probably also correct in that it's going to be parodying "We are the World."

What it suggests is that he's animated a fourth music video, and he's not really known for doing too many videos. According to the "New York Times" article it was mentioned that he was working on one for Al. So unless Bill has suddenly become a hot music video director and had a slate of other video productions in front of him (which the site doesn't seem to indicate would be true), it would be an awfully huge coincidence if that blurb was not referring to the Al video.mewrio @ Jan 17 2006, 03:26 AM wrote: I might be acting a bit slow here, but what makes you think that? So if this blurb on Bill's site can be looked at as a sort of confirmation of what the "Times" reported (granted I've preceded a lot of this with "if" so far), then it's also very likely that the part about "We are the World" is true, too.
Unless, of course, Bill doesn't really know who Weird Al is or what "We are the World" sounds like and he's really working on something totally, totally different.

Ok, thanks for that. I guess I should have thought about that before asking.
Well it looks like the report is true. But isn't it possible that the whole thing is just fake information fed to the press to keep them happy. Is that at all likely? I mean, in terms of all the spoilers we've had for all the albums so far, have any of the titles or parodies ever been wrong?

Jeepers I hope that it really is just a rumor...with all of the negative feedback Al would probably start to get quite a complex...can you imagine? writing what you think is a really fresh and funny song that will wow the nations and please the die hard fans, but then it leaks out and everyone just talks about how much it sucks? It might be a little hard on the self esteem...methinks...
